Four-Alarm House Fire Eastern Ave

August 5, 2022 by Chief Micheal Sullivan

Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department extinguished a four-alarm fire Friday.

At 11:35 a.m. Wakefield Firefighters were dispatched to 26 Eastern Ave. for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames showing from a house.

Firefighters began an immediate and aggressive attack on the fire, and subsequently struck second, third and fourth alarms to bring in significant mutual aid resources to assist.

A Wakefield firefighter was transported to an area hospital with heat-related injuries as a precaution. Residents were home when the fire started but were able to safely escape.

Flames extended through the house via void spaces in the ceiling and walls, and the fire was extinguished by approximately 1:30 p.m.

Crews from the Reading, Stoneham, Melrose, North Reading, Lynnfield, Woburn, Winchester and Wilmington Fire Departments responded to the scene, while members of the Burlington, Malden and Lynn Fire Departments responded to provide station coverage in Wakefield.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wakefield Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
